A European customer required the fabrication of steel structures for wind towers. This project involved cutting, fitting, welding, and strict dimension control to meet high standards of quality and performance.

Challenge

The fabrication of the steel structures required adherence to rigorous standards, including:

• Cutting, Fitting, and Welding of large size steel components (Max Diam: 5.88m x 2.52 m x 2.055 m): Precise execution of each process to ensure structural integrity.

• Dimension Control: Meeting strict tolerance requirements for the final product.

• NDT Measurement: Comprehensive non-destructive testing (NDT) with 100% visual testing (VT), 100% magnetic testing (MT), and 100% ultrasonic testing (UT).

The welding needed to comply with ISO 5817 Class B standards, ensuring the highest quality and reliability.

Solution

CNIM Asia undertook the project, ensuring every step of the fabrication process met the required standards:

  1. Cutting and Fitting: Utilizing advanced equipment to achieve precise cutting and fitting of the steel components.

  2. Welding: Conducting welding operations in compliance with ISO 5817 Class B standards, ensuring high-quality welds.

  3. Dimension Control: Implementing strict dimension control measures to ensure the final product met the specified tolerance requirements.

  4. NDT Measurement: Performing thorough non-destructive testing (100% VT, 100% MT, and 100% UT) to verify the integrity of the welds.

  5. Third-Party Witness: Engaging a third-party witness to oversee and verify the fabrication process, ensuring transparency and adherence to standards.

Outcome

CNIM China successfully completed the fabrication of the steel structures for wind towers, meeting all specified requirements and standards. The involvement of a third-party witness ensured the highest level of quality and compliance, providing the customer with confidence in the final product.
